Summer Work
I have often been asked ‘how my summer was’, and what I did. I was blessed to be able to take time and do some inner work. I had to find the passion I’ve always had, again. I enjoyed making these one of ones. The jean skirt has been on my mind for a while, I knew that I needed to make my own iteration of one. It features frayed edges, and patchwork pieces placed on the jeans from the cut-off of the hems. At the longest edge of the denim skirt, it is 40” long. With a 13” slit on both sides of the skirt, it has an optimal range of motion. The waist is a true 30”. I’ve been eager to design a huge hat for a while. The “sun disk” is an 8-panel, 27 1/2-inch wide shield. It can fold down for when you’re lying in the sun or up for when you’re on the go. The sun disk is made out of black duck canvas. Although not available at the moment, our female model Ziya is wearing a raglan cut long sleeve I’ve been developing. Taking a break can leave one feeling the angst of uncertainty. But with a shift in perspective it can yield the best results…in the long run.
When designing clothes from scratch or simply repurposing garments I often ask myself is it enough? Am I making something that will last? Am I being adequately compensated for the time taken to create? These questions can often arise. When you truly enjoy the process and thought of sitting down to pattern or sew something, these problematic questions tend to drift. I enjoy the process and thinking about the logistics after I’m done with the product.
